ABOUT ME

Stephen hagan headshot

Hey Everyone!

I’m Stephen Hagan, owner of Hagan Endurance Coaching. I live in Arrington, TN, just outside of Nashville, with my wife, son, and two dogs. I started distance running as a way to get into ‘ridiculous shape’ when I found myself a bit overweight and very much not in shape. Since my first marathon in 2009, I’ve run 16 more, plus an Ironman. I’ve been fortunate to qualify for and run Boston 3 times, posting a personal best marathon time of 3:10:17. I’m currently working toward completing the World Marathon Majors.

I started coaching rather informally by helping my then girlfriend, now wife, get ready for her first half marathon. Following the COVID shutdown of 2020, I was asked to help a dear friend prepare for her next marathon. We agreed that she’d be my guinea pig for me to formalize a coaching business. She has had incredible success with my plans and has PR’d at the distance multiple times since.

COACHING STYLE

My coaching philosophy can be summed up in two words: Consistency and Purpose. I believe that runners run and that if you want to get better at anything, you need to do that thing over and over. While balancing recovery needs, busy schedules, and things that come up, I believe in running most every day. The more a person runs, within reason, the more fitness that person builds. I also believe that each run should have a purpose and that there are no junk miles. We should either be working on something specific or recovering from what was done the previous day. All the components of running need to come together on race day for you to achieve your goals.

I’m also very much about eliminating excuses and holding you accountable.  We all need that accountability partner from time to time (me included), so I’m glad to help with that.  If you’re willing to invest in me to help you achieve your goals, I expect you to invest in you by doing the work.
